We chose Granville Island for this family photography session because there's so much to do within such a compact area. It's also one of the most colourful places in Vancouver, making it a perfect backdrop for honest and fun family photos.
As usual, we photographed this session using a mix of 35mm film and digital photography. Taking full advantage of everything the area has to offer gave the family plenty to explore and enjoy, allowing us to capture genuine moments and photograph them as naturally as possible.

Rather than staying in one spot, we wandered through the Public Market, stopped for ice cream, explored the playground, spent some time sitting together and finished by running around in the field. Yes, we ran around too.
Every stop offered something a little different, giving the family a chance to interact naturally while we documented the laughter, conversations, and moments that made the family photos feel so authentic.
By simply exploring together, the session felt less like a photoshoot and more like an afternoon spent making memories in one of Vancouver's most vibrant areas.

As the sun was fading and the session was wrapping up, we asked the daughter if she wanted to go to McDonalds and ended up with this hilarious little clip.
This was the absolute best compliment we could have gotten as photographers. Sessions with us aren’t just about the photos, they're about the overall experience. We want everyone we work with to have fun during the shoot and this one was no exception.
To make this session even more memorable, we had the family pick 5 of their favourite photos and we also picked our 5 favourite photos. A couple weeks later we had some 6×4 prints made at Rocket Reprographics in Gastown and mailed it to the family. We have video of them opening the prints but since we can't post videos here, you'll just have to take our word for it.

If a shoot like this is something you think you and your family would be interested in, head on over to our couples & families section and reach out. We’d love to hear from you!
